June Favourites | Beauty

Hey all! I know everyone else is probably saying it, but doesn't it feel like the whole year is flying by? June was the grand transition to summer, and it is really hot and humid here in Barbados. Here are my beauty buddies from June!

L'Oreal True Match Blendable Powder

I honestly do not feel like wearing much on my face these days, liquid foundation or BB creams included. Although they have more coverage than this powder, I find myself gravitating to this more if I want to look a little less rough. Hello acne scars, I'm looking at you. This powder is very fine and gives a nice matte finish, which sometimes leaves me looking a bit dead, so I mist my face with witch hazel to liven it up. This powder offers light coverage, I would say you could build it, but it looks cakey then, so just use a concealer underneath. However I still haven't found my perfect shade in concealer yet.

Dove Go Fresh Antiperspirant Deodorant Cucumber & Green tea scent Roll-on

Remember those Avons Roll-on deos from back in the day when you first started to go through puberty? This is like a trip down memory lane, but the scent isn't as perfumey. I was looking to switch up my daily deo from Degree and spotted this in Cherish for $3BDS. Dove at $3 and it's cucumber scented? I said, what they hey! So I bought it and I was impressed. I wear this on days that I'm going to be home most of the day. But I have worn it out and it works too. Not as great as an antiperspirant stick, but it does have a very refreshing scent and I just love that. Plus it keeps my dry. I wouldn't recommend this if you have strong body odour or sweat a lot though. If you're more like me, this is a nice change from harsher deodorants.

Natural oils: Coconut oil, Castor Oil & Tea tree oil

Source
I'm always on an oil kick, constantly tooting the benefits of natural oils. Don't get me wrong though, I love the commercial products and am no way into strictly organic (even in terms of Chemistry). But I like to mix together the aforementioned oils and I apply them to my scalp, face or patches of dry skin. I like to use these three because of the benefits each has, especially my beloved coconut oil. Tea tree oil being antimicrobial and antiseptic, has made it one of my go-tos. I love to use my oil mix after I've shaved, to prevent ingrown hairs and other nasties. I use it on my face as a light moisturiser, whenever I feel like my skin will break out. It's helped with my sporadic acne, and my skin definitely feels smooth all over.

Humphrey's Witch Hazel

Another natural product, and inexpensive refreshing spray or toner. It feels better than water on your face. You know if you use a drugstore toner and mistakenly get it in your eyes, and it burns like hell? This does not do that! Yet it's able to tone your skin, leave it soft and supple. I spray this on at the end of my makeup application, when I feel a bit cakey. I also use it prior to moisturising my skin, or even afterwards. If I have a pimple, I may soak a q-tip with Witch Hazel and then place it on the pimple for a bit, then the pimple isn't as painful due to it's anti-inflammatory properties. Overall, it's a great product and it leaves my skin looking great.

Clearzit Acne Treatment cream

A generic acne cream of 10% Benzoyl  peroxide, which works wonders on pimples, getting rid of them in about 2 days. This stuff is very drying though. It helps to alleviate blackheads and white-heads too with consistent use. Sadly if you use this consistently, your face will peel. No joke. I've had that happen to me. Also you need to wear sunscreen with ClearZit, since it's very harsh. Really you're only supposed to spot treat areas, but I like to cover my nose with at night and hope for a clearer nose in the morning. I can't do this every night though, this is just too harsh. You can also wear it under your makeup which I've done a plenty since it's oil-free and dries clear.

ORS HaiRepair Invigorating Shampoo

I love that this shampoo tingles my scalp. It has Rosemary, Mint, and is sulfate-free too. This shampoo leaves my hair feeling clean but still moisturised, rather than stripped and dry. I can't rave about it enough. I use this with all my washes, since I really like that clean feeling, twice monthly or more.

EOS Lip sphere- Blueberry Potion (LE)

Currently looks so beaten up, it's embarrassing to take a pic of it.
I was so lucky to have won this lip sphere about a year or 2 ago, and I have been savouring it, using it in rotation with other lip balms. Now EOS is available in Barbados, I've let loose and have been using this all throughout June and part of May. I have it next to my PC and sometimes carry it in my purse. Although this is not the queen of moisturising lip balms, this has a whimsical appeal and a yummy flavour that even my bf loves. I can't wait to purchase some of these here!

Ruby Kisses SuperMascara Waterproof in Navy blue

As you might have noticed in my summer series, I noted how much fun it is to wear coloured mascaras. The fact that this one is a bright blue and it's waterproof makes my day. Although I don't get crazy volume like with my L'Oreal or Maybelline mascaras, the pop of colour draws attention to my eyes, with as little effort possible.

So that's what I've been loving for June. What have been your go-to products for last month? Have you been into coloured mascara like I have, or maybe a new shampoo that's been giving your hair life? Let me know!
Until next post....
